During the winter, birds have a problem finding drinking water. All natural water sources are frozen. You can put a heating element into your birdbath which will stop water from freezing, giving to the birds a fresh water source. When birds notice that, their number will be increasing every day! If you want to try the more low-tech method, you can pore warm water at the particular time every day.
Remember, that birds drink water in the morning and noon! Besides drinking, birds like bathing. Coldness and frost aren’t problems for them. If you provide them warm water, you will see them having fun every day.
During the spring, a number of birds visiting your birdbath can increase. Many migrating birds will join, so you will have to provide more water. A heating element isn’t required any more, nor the pouring of warm water. At that time, you can expect birds such as: wood warblers, vireos and other insect eating birds.
During the summer, you will have more work! Because it is very hot, birds will drinking and bathing more, so you must provide them more water. Remember to put a shallow dish, filled with water on the ground, so birds like thrushes and towhees can enjoy (they like to stay low).
